33 years of Porsche racing and development
- People, cars, stories
by Peter Falk and Wilfried Müller
Awarded second place in the biography category at the "AUTO BILD Book Prize - presented by MOTORWORLD" 2017.
Peter Falk and Porsche, 33 years of success and passion: As a race director and one of the leading figures in the experiment, Falk shaped the character of the sports cars from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen for decades - on the racetrack and on the road.
From the first 901 to the last air-cooled Type 993, all Porsche 911s also bore the signature of Peter Falk, who started out as a chassis engineer in Zuffenhausen in 1959 and later headed large areas of the test department. In the 1960s, Falk also took over the technical and tactical leadership of the Porsche racing team, which he led to its greatest successes as racing director from 1981 to 1988: "His" team celebrated victories in Le Mans and the sports car world championship the Paris-Dakar and triumphed in Formula 1 with the TAG turbo engines.
In this work Peter Falk tells his story with Porsche. He reports how the people in the hut in Weissach talked their heads hot and what the Porsche entourage experienced in endless test drives at the Arctic Circle and in the Sahara, how the racing cars roared to the start in Le Mans on the country road and like a test drive in the 908 would have been almost fatal for himself. Falk shares his view of every Porsche racing car from the 904 Carrera GTS to the 962C and his memories of the racing drivers who drove under his direction: Hans Herrmann, Jacky Ickx, Vic Elford, Derek Bell, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jochen Mass to name just a few. Falk tells Porsche “from the inside”.
Peter Falk wrote down his personal Porsche story together with author Wilfried Müller. A number of photographs from his private collection, from the Porsche historical archive and from McKlein's holdings are shown here for the first time. The contributions of former colleagues and racing drivers complete the picture of 33 years with Porsche.
