Winward Racing is shaking up the DTM
After a successful Class 1 era, the DTM opened up for the 2021 season with the switch to GT3 vehicles from a variety of manufacturers and teams. After less exciting seasons with only two manufacturers, the great diversity of brands and teams finally gives the DTM a highly competitive field with a lot of excitement in the fight for victories and the championship.
The Winward Racing team has been at the start with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 right from the start. The American-German team has many years of motorsport know-how behind it. After a cooperation in the Michelin Pilot Challenge in America, the well-known and successful team HTP Motorsport and the American father-son team Bryce and Russell Ward formed the successful team Winward Racing, which not only competes in the DTM, but also in the GT World Challenge Europe and selected IMSA races.
After a successful first DTM season, which the team finished third in the team standings, they started the 2022 season with three vehicles. In addition to champion Maximilian Götz, who celebrated the first GT3 championship title in 2021, the Austrian Lucas Auer and Formula started -Converter David Schumacher.
Lucas Auer was already convinced in Class 1 and experienced his most successful DTM season to date in 2022. With two wins this season, Gerhard Berger's nephew stayed in the title race until the finale in Hockenheim and in the end only had to admit defeat to BMW driver Sheldon van der Linde and secured the runner-up position. With this strong performance, Auer also contributed a large part to the runner-up title in the team classification.
David Schumacher experienced a difficult season. After switching from formula to GT racing, the son of Formula 1 Grand Prix winner Ralf Schumacher needed some time to get into the series. Despite a few highlights, the young driver remained without points, but still had the chance to develop further next season in both the DTM and the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
The manufacturer Ixo has brought two models from Winward Racing's successful DTM season onto the market. On the one hand, Lucas Auer's second win of the season in the first race of the final weekend in Hockenheim and on the other hand, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in Ravenol design by David Schumacher. The models in scale 1:43 were produced in the usual high-quality Ixo quality and reflect the originals as best as possible.
Special designs in the Green Hell
In addition to the DTM sprint format, Mercedes-AMG is also involved in long-distance racing - especially on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. One of the most successful teams in recent years is the HRT Haupt Racing Team. In addition, the team, which is based not far from the Nürburgring, always comes up with eye-catching designs. Especially with sponsor Bilstein, the team around racing driver Hubert Haupt has already designed numerous special foils.
In the first year of the corona pandemic in 2020, the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring was postponed until autumn. With a mask requirement, a long night-time break due to fog and a starting field decimated due to the circumstances, HRT started with a specially designed Mercedes-AMG GT3. In keeping with the current situation, the designers quickly gave the car and the Bilstein logo a mask. And even with a mask on, the car was moving quickly. In the end, Hubert Haupt, Yelmer Buurman, Nico Bastian and Philip Ellis crossed the finish line in eighth overall position.
The Haupt Racing Team brought another Bilstein special design to the start at the 24h Qualifiers in 2022. This time the team opted for a camouflage look in the Bilstein rides yellow and blue. In the preparatory race for the season highlight, which for the first time was divided into two races lasting three hours each, Hubert Haupt, Nico Bastian and Philip Ellis were pilots in the Mercedes-AMG GT3.
These two Bilstein vehicles were also brought onto the market by the manufacturer Ixo in scale 1:43. The models were produced in the usual high-quality Ixo quality and reflect the originals as best as possible.
