Today we present the modelcar of the iconic classic Audi S1 in scale 1:18 that CMR exclusivley produced for CK Modelcars and Modelissimo. It is about the winner car with which Walter Röhrl had won the Pikes Peak Hillclimb in Colorado, USA in 1987 and thus undercut the current course record by 22 seconds at that time. On that day at the latest, the Audi Sport Quattro S1 became famous in America and is still one of the most famous rally vehicles in the world today. The diecast model of the Ingolstadt wing monster has opening doors, an interior that is true to the original and steerable front wheels.
It is a day in the summer of 1987, where Walter Röhrl writes motorsport history at the Pikes Peak and undercut the course record of the American Bobby Unser by 22 seconds. Bobby Unser comes from a family of race drivers and is considered the “King of Pikes Peak” in the USA with 11 victories in the “Race to the Clouds”. Incidentally, Unser also set his record of 11.09.220 minutes in an Audi Quattro S1, which makes Röhrl's performance even more impressive. To date, Röhrl's record of 10.47.850 minutes has not been beaten by any other vehicle with a front engine. Walter Röhrl is the only German rally world champion and is known beyond the motorsport community for his relaxed sayings and his sympathetic and very honest manner. In addition to his two world championship titles in 1980 and 1982, Röhrl won the Monte Carlo Rally four times with 4 different vehicles.
With the version of the Sport Quattro with which Röhrl had started at Pikes Peak 1987, it is about a further development of the original S1. More wings and spoilers were adjusted at the vehicle that caused more downforce. After the renovations, the car got the additional designation E2. With 598 hp, the engine has the most powerful version of the Sport Quattro ever built by Audi.
