A Porsche in memory of the Swiss racing legend Jo Siffert

A Porsche in memory of the Swiss racing legend Jo Siffert

back to blog overview

Limited, individually numbered collector's item from the Spark label in scale 1:18 and 1:43. RRP €349.95 and €119.95, item-no.: WAP0215100SGT3, WAP0205100SGT3

Almost 55 years ago, on August 10th, 1969, the Porsche 917 won its first race. At the wheel of the 1000-kilometer race held at the Austria-ring (Österreichring) near Zeltweg, together with Kurt Ahrens, was the Swiss Joseph "Jo" Siffert. The Porsche 917 is considered very difficult to drive due to its speed and aerodynamics. With this victory, Jo Siffert proves his talent as a racing driver and heralds the success story of the Porsche 917. Together with the son and grandson of the deceased Siffert, Porsche has launched a one-off version of the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) in 2024, the paintwork of which is intended to commemorate the victory in 1969. The GT3 RS "Jo Siffert Tribute" was raffled off among existing interested parties at the end of 2024.

The label Spark has immortalized this one-off model in a model in scale 1:18. The model, which is limited to 500 pieces and includes a display case, is delivered in Porsche factory packaging. All 500 models are individually numbered and are therefore exclusive collector's items. Spark also offers this unique model in scale 1:43. The special features here are that the vehicle is limited and comes with Porsche factory packaging.

Racing driver Jo Siffert, who died over 50 years ago, also enjoys cult status beyond Switzerland. In the 11 years that Siffert was actively racing, he competed in 298 races. On some weekends he took part in several competitions at once. For former racing engineer Peter Falk, who was interviewed about Jo Siffert in 2018, it is clear that Siffert is to thank for the title in the 1969 Sports Car World Championship. Falk remembers that Siffert was the fastest man in the team.

Porsche won seven out of a total of ten races in the 1969 season. This is where the legendary story of the Porsche 917 begins. Just one year later, Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood won in Le Mans in 1970 in a Porsche 917. In 1971, Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep followed suit. In 1972 and 1973, the turbo versions 917/10 and 917/30 dominated the American CanAM series. Unfortunately, Jo Siffert did not live to see this. He died in an accident at the age of just 35 in a Formula 1 race at Brands Hatch on October 24th, 1971.

The one-off model in honor of Jo Siffert has the same paintwork as the Porsche 917 used in 1969. In addition to the pure white paintwork, the vehicle has Viper Green contrasting surfaces in some places. The middle section of the rear spoiler, which is characteristic of the 992 GT3 RS, is also Viper Green. The original starting number 29 can also be found on the doors, bonnet, rear spoiler and valve caps. The designers were inspired by the original vehicle for the Porsche lettering on the doors and side panels.

With the support of Shell and Bosch, the original sponsor stickers were even able to be attached in their original place. In the interior, Porsche used the one-off piece to show what customization options are possible at the customer's request. The door sills are decorated with the silhouette of the 917 and the signature of Jo Siffert. Otherwise, there is a racing atmosphere with Race-Tex in black and guards red.
