OM Fiat 150 Rolfo – An Italian transporter in a class of its own

back to blog overview

Rolfo: The now well-known company for special vehicles, heavy transport and car transporters was founded in 1885 by Giorgio Rolfo in Bra, Italy, as a wagon manufacturing business and is still run by the family today.

Until the 1940s, the focus was on repairing freight vehicles and building the first semitrailers. In the 1950s, the company specialized in the construction of exclusively manufactured delivery vehicles and was able to convince well-known customers such as Ferrero and Cinzano.

In the 1960s, Rolfo developed a new line of business and started producing car transporters. The best-known model is the OM 150, developed in 1967 for Scuderia Ferrari. A racing transporter designed to transport highly sensitive Formula 1 racing cars, including all spare parts, equipment for the mechanics and the team itself. The six-cylinder engine from Fiat, equipped with 186 hp, purred reliably directly under the large driver's cab with second row of seats. The box shape of the van paired with the typical Ferrari red and the steering wheel on the right side are almost reminiscent of the typical London buses.

In the interior of the truck, which is more than five meters long, there was sophisticated storage space technology to park the racing cars on top of each other on two levels, thus creating enough space for spare parts and technology in the front area.
Two fold-out loading ramps at the rear, which functioned as a kind of car elevator, coupled with an additional side loading ramp, enabled the Rolfo transporter to be loaded and unloaded quickly and easily. This loading technology can still be seen today in the ultra-modern trucks in the paddocks of the racetracks and has apparently more than proven itself.

CK-Modelcars and Modelissimo have now put the Rolfo OM 150 of the Scuderia Ferrari on sale under the joint brand CMR with great attention to detail and the usual high quality. The model in 1:18 has opening doors on the driver's cab, through which the detailed interior can be admired. The two loading doors on the sides boast fold-out steps and provide a view of the front storage space of the van. The highlight of the model, however, is the loading ramp hidden behind the rear doors, with which the optionally available Formula 1-models can be loaded onto both levels of the Rolfo OM 150. This masterpiece of model building technology is an absolute must for every collector.
