This so far unique monograph traces the history of the company and the NSU brand with all its ups and downs and provides a detailed overview of all NSU models with many previously unpublished photos - always in the context of cultural and contemporary history.

Before the author delves into the subject of NSU car manufacturing with the first NSU motor car, the Type 5/10 HP of 1906, he looks at the company's beginnings as a manufacturer of knitting machines, bicycles and motorbikes. This is followed by the eventful years of the First World War, during which NSU produced trucks for the army, and the period under the direction of the FIAT Group. It then describes why NSU had to give up its car production in 1932 and how the success curve began to climb steeply again in 1957 with the slogan "Drive Prince and you are King" and the corresponding car.

The 1969 merger with the VW subsidiary Auto Union to form "Audi NSU Auto Union AG" is also examined. The book concludes with the NSU Ro 80, voted "Car of the Year" in 1967, and the Type K 70, which finally saw the light of day in 1970 - after the takeover of NSU by VW - as the VW K 70. With the end of production of the NSU Ro 80 in 1977, first the NSU brand disappeared, and finally, in 1985, the company name was absorbed into Audi AG.

Many previously unpublished pictures from their archives in Neckarsulm round off this volume from the Edition Audi Tradition series and provide a detailed picture of the NSU brand and its great automobiles.
