Book:
Porsche 911 in Racing - Four Decades of Motor Racing
The Authors: Gustav Büsing / Michael Cotton / John Davenport / Wilfried Müller / Bill Oursler
Barely three months after delivery of the first Porsche 911 in September 1964, the new model made its debut in motorsport. A few modifications were enough to help Porsche factorz employees Herbert Linge and Peter Falk finish fifth overall in legendary Monte Carlo Rally in January 1965 with the Porsche 911/2.0, with starting number 147.
With this result, the new car proved right away that it was well-worth its “sportscar” description. It was only the first of an unbelievable number of production and racing cars that all had one thing in common: in one way or another, they were derivatives of the 911.
No matter if circuit, rally or hill climb, there is no terrain and no discipline where a Porsche 911 isn’t able to win.
No matter if atmospheric , turbo or four-wheel drive, there is no technology that wouldn’t be good for motorsport success in a Porsche 911. No matter if Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia or America, there is no continent on which the Porsche 911 hasn’t helped his drivers, male and female, to sporting laurels.
The varied history of four successful decades in motorsport is being revived by a team of international journalists in a unique publication. Porsche engineers, who were first involved in development of the 911 in motorsport since 1963 and then were supervising it, deliver an insight into technology, strategy and tactics concerning the many versions of this successful model, almost too numerous to count. Over 1000 photographs and illustrations, including many previously unpublished images and sketches and over 100 Porsche 911 achievement-posters add to the literary joy, whilst also making this book a competent work reference.
