Manthey Racing made a brilliant return to the World Endurance Championship in the 2024 season. The team, based in Meuspath at the Nürburgring, had led the Porsche factory effort in the GTE Pro category until 2022, achieving victories and world championship titles. However, with the end of the GTE Pro class, the Manthey team also disappeared from the racing series.
That changed again after a one-year break. The long-awaited GT3 class was introduced to the FIA ??WEC for the 2024 season. This also brought the team founded by Olaf Manthey and currently led by Nicki and Martin Raeder back into the game. Manthey Racing became the team fielding the two 911 GT3 R cars in the World Endurance Championship. The racing team had previously enjoyed considerable success with this model elsewhere, for example with the "Grello" on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and with the DTM title win with Thomas Preining last year.
Their WEC comeback was similarly strong. The two Manthey Porsches finished first and second in the World Championship, securing a one-two finish. Both driver crews achieved equal success. Klaus Bachler, Alex Malykhin, and Joel Sturm, driving the number 92 car, got off to a perfect start to the season. Their opening victory in Qatar immediately added important points to their tally, especially since the ten-hour race length meant points were awarded one and a half times. With another victory in São Paolo and four additional podium finishes, the trio's world championship title was already secured after the penultimate race in Fuji. While their teammates lost out in the championship, Richard Lietz, Morris Schuring, and Yasser Shahin secured victory at the FIA ??WEC season highlight, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Model manufacturer Ixo has now released the two Porsche 911 GT3 Rs that left their mark on the GT3 class of the 2024 WEC in scale 1:18. The models were produced in the usual high Ixo quality and reflect the originals as closely as possible. They are also official Manthey Racing products.
The completely different appearances of the two cars are particularly appealing to collectors. The yellow and black starting number 91 was called Manthey EMA, in reference to the long-standing partnership between Manthey Racing and the Australian team EMA Motorsport, with which one of the three drivers, Yasser Shahin, had previously achieved success. The white and yellow starting number 92, on the other hand, was called Manthey PureRxcing. Manthey had previously supported the Lithuanian team PureRxcing in GT racing and successfully expanded the collaboration with the WEC participation under the Lithuanian flag.
