The 24 Hours of Le Mans is not just the ultimate thing for the world's elite of motorsports. The long-distance classic in France has always captivated Hollywood greats. The film “Le Mans” with Steve McQueen as the main actor is unforgettable. More recently, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey shone with a class podium in 2015 and later as a successful team member.

It was also Dempsey who brought other celebrities from Hollywood to the Sarthe - his actor friend Michael Fassbender. The Irishman, known from films such as “Inglourious Basterds” and “X-Men”, made his first appearance at Le Mans in 2022.

His racing car was a Porsche 911 RSR, which was driven by the Proton Competition team in the GTE Am-class. Fassbender took on the role of a gentleman driver. Porsche professional Matt Campbell and Canadian Zacharie Robichon, who is experienced in US racing, sat at his side.

The proximity to the people of Zuffenhausen was no coincidence. In collaboration with Porsche, Fassbender had been preparing for the ambitious project for several years. After Patrick Dempsey made contact, Michael Fassbender started working at the Porsche Racing Experience. He then competed in the Porsche Sports Cup and the European Le Mans Series.

These milestones on his way to Le Mans were also filmed for the documentary series “Road to Le Mans”. “It was a breathtaking journey, even if it was sometimes difficult to always have a camera around you,” remembers project manager Sebastian Borowski.

And Michael Fassbender himself also had to realize at his Le Mans premiere that there really was no script for this race. Although they managed to finish in second-to-last place in the GTE Am-class, numerous trips off the track strained Fassbender's and the team's nerves. The online community, on the other hand, felt very entertained by the sometimes stumbling rookie. And the striking green Porsche was also extremely well received by the fans.
