DKW Automobile Edition Audi Tradition
from Thomas Erdmann
Hardly any brand in the history of AUDI AG has shaped the company's development as much as the DKW brand. For over four decades, DKW cars were a household name in the automotive landscape of Germany and the world. Between 1928 and 1968, these cars with their typical two-stroke engines helped broad sections of the population achieve the mobility that we take so much for granted today.
After 1932, DKW was the second ring in the Auto Union brand group, and formed the main pillar for the upswing of the Saxon automobile group after the world economic crisis of 1929. Also at the time of the "economic miracle", it was the DKW brand that formed the basis for a new start for Auto Union in Ingolstadt after the company had been expropriated and liquidated in its Saxon homeland in 1948.
This book offers a unique insight into the development, production and sales history of the automobile in this period beyond the pure DKW type history. An extensive appendix of tables contains not only technical data but also detailed production figures for all models and even overviews of chassis numbers.
Author Thomas Erdmann is a long-time employee of Audi Tradition and a profound expert on Audi corporate and product history. His standard work on the DKW automobiles also offers the reader an emotional journey to a time when the development of the motor vehicle was still very much shaped by empirical findings.
