The USA is currently one of the most important markets for Formula 1. Three races are held there each season – more than in any other country. Formula 1 owner Liberty Media is American, as is the streaming portal Netflix, home of the successful "Drive to Survive" series, and the production company behind the 2025 movie "F1." Furthermore, Cadillac, a US auto giant, is about to enter the premier class, and numerous American companies are sponsors of the current teams.
Considering Formula 1's eventful history in the States, its current success seems almost surreal. Such enthusiasm, from the CEO's chair to the grandstand seat, was unthinkable in the USA just a few years ago.
In 2012, the tide began to turn, at least slowly. Since then, Formula 1 has had a permanent place in the USA at the Circuit of the Americas. The facility near Austin, Texas, was designed by the team led by Herrmann Tilke for the Formula 1 return. The Circuit of the Americas is not a traditional track, but with its technically interesting combination of corners and numerous bumps, it is considered both physically and mentally challenging, quickly gaining a foothold among drivers and fans.
In 2022 and 2023, another US event was added to the calendar, but with a completely different approach. The events in Miami and Las Vegas bring Formula 1 to the heart of the city and thus to artificially shaped tracks that are less popular with long-time fans. The focus on show and staging at these races is considered excessive and inappropriate by some of the long-time audience.
One of the biggest critics from the field is Max Verstappen. The four-time world champion is notoriously not a fan of large-scale media staging. Before the first Grand Prix in Las Vegas, the Dutchman underscored his opposition to the event with clear statements in the press. He still won the race on November 18th, completing the US treble for the 2023 season. Verstappen had already won the races in Miami and Austin earlier in the year.
The three US victories were part of Max Verstappen's unparalleled record-breaking season with 19 wins and his third world championship title. Minichamps has released a high-quality scale 1:43 set featuring the three winning cars, limited to 333 pieces exclusively for ck-modelcars. The three Red Bull RB19s are presented in an attractive collector's box. A special highlight are the three different special designs that Red Bull Racing fielded at the US races. They make the collectibles even more exclusive and instantly distinguishable.
