"James Bond 007 - For Your Eyes Only" was released in 1981 and is the twelfth part of the Bond series and the fifth part with Roger Moore as Bond. After "The Spy Who Loved Me", a Lotus Esprit is used for the second time. The mid-engine sports car was manufactured from 1976 to 2004, but only 10,500 units left the halls of the British small-series manufacturer. In the 1981 Bond, two Esprits are used. One in white and one in copper. The white one has a rather brief appearance. Right at the beginning of the film, a villain who is looking for Bond smashes the window, triggering the vehicle's self-destruct mode. Later in the film, Roger Moore drives a copper-colored model of the Lotus with skis on the roof. The color was chosen so that the vehicle would blend in better with the snow-covered landscape during filming. The original film car was auctioned at an eBay auction in 2006 and, with a price of $210,000, is the most expensive Lotus Esprit in the world. Both models are available in scale 1:18 in our shop from the label KK-Scale. Both the white model (item-no.: KKDC181191) and the copper-colored Lotus (item-no.: KKDC181192) have steerable front wheels and are right-hand drive, as befits their status. Just like in the film, the replica of the copper-colored Lotus also has skis on the roof. Both models have steerable front wheels.

“For Your Eyes Only” is about James Bond’s mission to recover a lost communications system that could otherwise fall into the wrong hands. Together with Bond girl Melina Havelock, played by French actress Carole Bouquet, Bond manages to hand the system over to safe hands after a few stunts and spectacular chases. After the rather fantastical and exotic plots of the previous films such as "Moonraker" (1979), which took James Bond into space, "For Your Eyes Only" returns to a relatively down-to-earth, realistic plot. The rather dark design of the twelfth Bond is reminiscent of films such as "From Russia with Love".

In addition to the James Bond films "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), in which the Lotus Esprit could transform into a submarine, and "For Your Eyes Only" (1981), the Lotus Esprit was also used in "Pretty Woman" (1990) and "Basic Instinct" (1992). Lotus repeatedly used films to increase the popularity of the Esprit. In addition to the initial engines with a displacement of two liters and 160 hp, the top model Esprit V8, which came onto the market in the mid-1990s, managed to generate 354 hp from a V8 biturbo. The sports car, which was only 1.12 meters high, completed the sprint from 0 to 100 kph faster than the then current Porsche Carrera 993.
