In 2022, the 33-year-old contested his tenth season in the popular championship together with BMW Motorsport. As in the previous year, he was part of the Walkenhorst Motorsport squad.
After switching from Class 1 to GT3 vehicles, Wittmann experienced a strong season in the 2021 BMW M6 GT3 and ultimately finished fourth in the championship as the best BMW driver. The man from Nuremberg wanted to build on this performance in the 2022 season.
But the year started anything but optimally for the two-time champion. After two difficult weekends with only two points, things went better at the second foreign game in Imola, Italy. With a strong qualifying, Wittmann started Sunday's race from third position and converted this into the first podium result of the season.
However, this upswing was followed by another dry spell, which reached its negative peak with a weekend without points at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. But in the finale at the Hockenheimring, Marco Wittmann once again demonstrated all his skills. After a strong third place in Saturday's race, he improved again on Sunday and won the last race of the season. In addition, he also secured the fastest race lap.
With this weekend full of points, Wittmann ended the season in a respectable eighth place in the championship standings and as the second-best BMW driver behind the title holder Sheldon van der Linde.
As in previous years, Marco Wittmann was out and about in the eye-catching white and green Schaeffler-design. The BMW M4 GT3 with starting number 11 is available in scale 1:18 and was produced in the usual high Minichamps quality. The model has an authentic interior and a detailed engine compartment. The front wheels are steerable and the doors and hood can be opened. The vehicle was produced exclusively for ck-modelcars.
