The Formula 1 season 2022 faced Mercedes and especially Lewis Hamilton new challenges. After a long period of Mercedes dominance in previous years, the season 2021 was narrowly lost to Max Verstappen and Red Bull in the last race. The year 2022 should be used to return to old strength. The vehicle that should help in this mission was the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13. The drivers for Mercedes were Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who had just switched from Williams. Since significant changes were made to the regulations in the 2022 season, the vehicle used is basically a new development.
In today's blog post, we focus on various models of the F1 W13 from the season 2022 by Minichamps. All presented models are limited and exclusively made for ck-modelcars. Both Lewis Hamilton's and George Russell's race car are available in scale 1:18. Both models have a cockpit replica that is true to the original with a driver figure. The limited edition (Hamilton 444 pieces and Russell 333 pieces) is delivered in a high-quality collector's folding box. Even collectors of the somewhat smaller scale 1:43 will get their money's worth. Again, both Hamilton and Russell's F1 W13 are available, with which the two drivers finished 3rd and 4th at the Bahrain GP and the version that saw Russell finish third at the Australian GP. The models, delivered in a high-cover collector's outer packaging, are also equipped with a figure of the driver and are only available in limited quantities. If you want to have both 1:43 models at the same time, you have the chance to buy the 2-car set, which is limited to 111 pieces and contains both Hamilton and Russell models.
The Mercedes AMG F1 W13 was developed for the season 2022, which included significant changes to the previous year's regulations. A 1.6 liter V6 engine from Mercedes drives the rear axle of the monoposto together with a 120 kW electric motor. The monocoque is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Like all vehicles since 2011, the F1 W13 also has a DRS system, which reduces drag on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing, and the Halo system, used since 2018, to provide additional protection for the driver's head. In 2022, the paintwork was mainly silver. Thanks to the sponsors Petronas and Ineos, cyan and red color accents can also be found in the paintwork. Otherwise, AMD, CrowdStrike, Epson, Pirelli, TeamViewer and Tommy Hilfiger advertise on the Mercedes vehicle.
For Lewis Hamilton, this season was the tenth season in the Mercedes team and the 16th season in Formula 1. George Russell had just switched from Williams to Mercedes and replaced Valtteri Bottas, who was drawn to Alfa Romeo. Surprisingly, at the end of the season, Russell even finished better than Hamilton. While Hamilton finished sixth in the drivers' standings, Russell was able to secure fourth place. Hamilton went without a win or pole position for the first time this season, but still managed to finish on the podium nine times.
