Bernd Mayländer and the Formula 1 belong together for 21 years. This is how long the native man from Baden-Wuerttemberg is behind the wheel of the safety-car in the premium class of motorsport. In addition to positions in Formula Ford, the Porsche Carrera Cup and the FIA GT Championship, Mayländer was a driver for Olaf Manthey's well-known racing team in the DTM from 2001-2004. He has been the official driver of the Formula 1 safety-car since 2000. Mayländer's relationship with the car manufacturer from his homeland is as old as his commitment as a safety-car driver, because the car manufacturer based in Baden-Wuerttemberg has been providing the safety-car since 1996. Today's blog post is about the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT-R, which was used in the 2021 Formula 1-season, piloted by Bernd Mayländer. The model in scale 1:43 from label Ixo was produced exclusively for ck-modelcars and reflects its 1:1 role model in the usual Ixo quality.

Of course, the best way to go about the race is when there is no reason for the safety-car. However, if there are vehicle parts on the track, or if bad weather conditions make it necessary, then it is Bernd Mayländer who goes out with the Mercedes-AMG GT-R and brings the field together so that the track can be cleaned or the field can be compacted. Mayländer has been driving the safety car since 2000 and had already completed around 700 laps in this capacity by the middle of the 2018 season. With its 430 kW / 585 hp and its top speed of 318 kilometers per hour, the Mercedes-AMG GT-R has been the most powerful Formula 1 safety-car of all time since the 2018 season. From the list of optional equipment from Mercedes, Bernd Mayländer's company car has the AMG Track Package with rollover protection system and ceramic high-performance composite brake system on board.

So for 25 years it has been a familiar image for Formula 1 fans that a Mercedes AMG holds the field together during a safety-car phase. An Aston Martin Vantage has also been in use since 2021, which Mayländer is also allowed to call his work machine, but this fact does not break the traditional history of Mercedes. Even the silver paintwork is a recurring element in the traditional history. In the season 2020, however, the look was adjusted so that various prominent campaigns could place their lettering or logo on the AMG GT-R. In addition to the Formula 1 campaign "WeRaceAsOne", which stands for the sporting commitment in terms of diversity and integration with its rainbow, the call "Drive safely" also finds space on the bonnet of the AMG GT-R. The campaign calls for considerate driving on the road. But regardless of whether it is red or silver, the AMG GT-R from Minichamps obviously feels at home in a showcase next to a few Formula 1 models.
