The range of modelcars to the topic Porsche 917 is currently inexhaustible. Almost every modelcar manufacturer has taken the sports car into its program: The triumphant march of the Stuttgart brand began with the 917 on the Circuit des 24 heures in Le Mans: It was in 1970, when the red-white painted Porsche 917 short tail, used by the Porsche KG Salzburg with Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood won the 24 hours of Le Mans. In the same year, the car manufacturer from Stuttgart started the collaboration with the racing stable of John Wyer, which made the 917, of the debut vintage 1969, struggling with problems in stability driveable by fitting small aluminum trim at the rear. Porsche and John Wyer Automotive Engineering competed with the optimisations at the 38th edition of the motorsport classic: now also theme for CMR.

The small series label has released modelcars to the Porsche 917 of the year 1970 out of diecast, so not from resine, as we want to emphasize. The recently arrived version wears the start number 21, in whose role model Pedro Rodríguez - winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1968 for Wyer on a Ford GT40 - and Finn Leo Kinnunen sat at the wheel. The fastest duo in 1970 had been Jo Siffert and Brian Redman in the light blue-orange look of the oil supplier Gulf and in the 917 with the 20, while the number 21 renounced the center strip on the orange in the decor. The twelve-cylinder mid-range mid-engined engine built into all Wyer-917 engines produced around 383 kW / 520 hp at a displacement of 4.5 liters. The car goes back to the prototype, which was presented in 1969 at the Geneva Motor Show.

A real high-quality 917

The engine was cooled by a fan wheel above the engine compartment. The 917 was one of the most successful racing sports cars of the 1970s, whose importance for Porsche is to have achieved several overall victories in sports car racing for the first time in the then largest displacement class. As we know today, the Stuttgart have achieved 19 overall victories since then at Le Mans, but retreated before the 20th success from the highest class LMP1. In the LMGT-Pro class, however, the Porsche GT team was also present at the Sarthe in 2018, bringing four 911 RSR to the starting line and winning as expected in this category. This victory should be defended in 2019. CMR does not have to defend itself for the result of this work: These Porsche 917 stand out with their quality from the market.
