Looking back, both the VW Beetle and the T1 proved to be extremely popular models in the customizing scene. Every possible modification was made, but among the multitude of modified originals that we see time and time again, there are still a few that stand out and make us smile – like the double T1!

The name is by no means official, but it accurately characterizes the modified T1 flatbed transporter. However, at first glance, it causes considerable confusion, because the question is: Where is the front and where is the back?

But if you take a closer look, you will quickly discover the ingenuity behind the concept. In simple terms, it is a standard T1 flatbed truck whose sheet metal loading area at the rear has been shortened by exactly the amount needed to replace it with the driver's cab of another T1 flatbed model. Since the underbody is still technically the same as that of a normal model, the boxer engine continues to work in its tried-and-tested position at the rear, but is now concealed by the sheet metal cladding of a driver's cab

Nothing is known about its customizer, owner, or collector, except that the VW was based in South Africa and was probably used daily, as evidenced by its wear and tear. There is much room for speculation here, but one thing is certain—this double T1 is simply a very cool VW at its finest.
