In the tyre drama at Silverstone several Formula 1 drivers were set back by a tire damage. Hamilton, who had been leading until then, also suffered a puncture on the final lap shortly bevore the finish line, but managed to save his car from the catching Max Verstappen in a dramatic finish.

It was Hamilton's 87th victory in the Formula 1 World Championship, including his 20th start-to-finish win. He surpassed Ayrton Senna, with whom he had previously shared the record with 19 start-finish victories each

At the end of the season, he secured his 7th Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship title, among other achievements, through this victory. Previously, only Michael Schumacher had accomplished this, making him no longer the sole record holder.
